According to the different flow directions of fans, they are divided into four categories:
1、 Axial flow fan
The blades of an axial flow fan cause air to flow in the same direction (parallel to the shaft).
The impeller and propeller of an axial flow fan are somewhat similar. When it works, the majority of the airflow flows parallel to the axis, in other words, along the axis direction.
The axial flow fan has the lowest power consumption when the inlet airflow is free air with zero static pressure.
During operation, power consumption also increases with the increase of airflow back pressure.
Axial fans are usually installed in cabinets of electronic and electrical equipment, and can also be integrated with electric motors. The compact structure of axial fans can save a lot of space and are easy to set up, making them widely used.
The square cooling fans seen on the market can basically be classified into this category.
The main characteristics of axial flow fans are: meeting the heat dissipation requirements of high flow velocity, medium air pressure, and ordinary environments
2、 Mixed flow fan
A mixed flow fan is also known as a diagonal flow fan.
There is no difference in appearance between this mixed flow fan and an axial flow fan.
In fact, the inlet of the mixed flow fan is along the axis, while the outlet is diagonally along the axis and vertical axis.
The blades and covers of this fan are called conical, resulting in high wind pressure. In terms of the same size and other comparative performance, centrifugal fans have lower noise than axial fans.
The main characteristic of a mixed flow fan is to achieve better heat dissipation under high flow velocity and relatively high wind pressure
3、 Centrifugal fan
When a centrifugal fan operates, the blades cause air to flow in a direction perpendicular to the shaft, the suction follows the shaft, but the exhaust is perpendicular to the shaft.
In many cases, using an axial fan can achieve cooling effects, but if it is necessary to rotate the airflow 90 degrees to exhaust, or if high air pressure is required, a centrifugal fan may be chosen.
Strictly speaking, fans also belong to centrifugal fans.
The image of this centrifugal fan is a small centrifugal fan. We usually use a multi wing centrifugal fan, which is mostly used for machinery. The appearance is different, but the principle is the same.
Key characteristics of centrifugal fan: change the inflow of wind, with current flow rate and high pressure
4、 Cross flow fan
Cross flow fans, also known as cross flow fans, can create large-scale airflow and are generally used to cool the wide surface of equipment.
The intake and exhaust of the fan are perpendicular to the axis.
The cross flow fan operates with a relatively long cylindrical fan impeller, which has a large diameter. Therefore, while ensuring the overall air circulation, using a relatively low speed can reduce the noise caused by high-speed operation.
Mainly used in elevators, air conditioners, cars, etc.
The main characteristics of cross flow airflow are low flow velocity, low wind pressure, and large heat dissipation area
