Characteristics and differences between axial flow fans and centrifugal fans

The characteristic of an axial flow fan is that the fluid flows along the axial direction of the blades. Electric fans and household ventilation fans, etc.
A centrifugal fan is a type of fan that draws fluid in from the axial direction of the fan and uses centrifugal force to eject the fluid from the circumferential direction, such as a drum fan or a range hood.
Axial flow fan: high flow rate and low pressure head.
Centrifugal fan: high pressure head and low flow rate.
The airflow direction of the axial fan is perpendicular to the rotation direction of the blades.
The airflow direction of a centrifugal fan is tangent to the direction of blade rotation.
The most important thing to consider when choosing a drum fan is the loss of flow and system resistance:
The biggest drawback of centrifugal fans compared to axial fans is their large size. Due to their different structures, centrifugal fans consume much more electricity than axial fans under the same air volume and pressure. However, due to their relatively low noise, axial fans are often used in fire ventilation. Most high-end buildings that often use hotels require priority use of centrifugal fans. Axial flow refers to the flow in the same direction as the axis of the wind blade. Use centrifugal force to shake off the airflow. If the flow of wind is parallel to the axis, it is called an axial fan, which is opposite to a centrifugal fan, which is a fan coil fan, etc.
The fundamental difference between axial flow fans and disc centrifugal fans lies in their mechanical structure:
The blade diameter of an axial flow fan is limited to the diameter of the casing, but centrifugal fans do not have such limitations. They can use blades that tilt forward or backward, which has wider requirements for air volume and pressure. In addition, the cabinet can undergo noise reduction treatment, which has great advantages in terms of noise indicators. The commonly used motor has a low speed, resulting in high power and power consumption. If the ventilation system is frequently used in daily life, try to use a disc centrifugal fan. For systems that are not frequently used for fire extinguishing and smoke exhaust, using a high-temperature axial flow fan is more economical. Centrifugal fans are more conducive to the combination selection of high air volume and high air pressure than axial fans (mainly in terms of fan efficiency and noise indicators).
The difference between centrifugal fans and axial fans is:
1. The centrifugal fan changes the flow direction of the medium in the air duct, while the axial fan does not change the flow direction of the medium in the air duct;
2. The former has high air volume and pressure, while the latter has low air volume and pressure;
3. The former is more complex to install, while the latter is simpler to install;
4. The former is generally connected to the fan through a shaft, while the latter is generally located inside the fan;
5. The former is often installed at the inlet and outlet of air conditioning units, boiler drums, induced draft fans, etc., while the latter is often installed in the middle of the air duct or at the front end of the air duct outlet.
