For example, 220V AC lightning arresters cannot be used in 1000V DC systems, and 24V DC lightning arresters cannot be used in 400V AC systems.
So, under what circumstances can AC lightning arresters be interchangeable with DC lightning arresters?
The answer is: "You need to match the voltage well"!
The maximum continuous working voltage of the AC lightning arrester is 385V. If the internal lightning protection components use varistors, the maximum DC working voltage of this chip is about 500V, which means that this level of AC lightning arrester is also suitable for some DC systems below 500V.
However, there are many structural forms of AC lightning arresters compared to DC. Compared to three-phase AC, it is 4P, while DC lightning arresters generally only require 2P or 1P, so the selection should also be based on actual situations.
At present, there are also lightning protection chips specifically designed for DC systems in the lightning protection industry, and their performance is more suitable for some characteristics of DC systems compared to these AC lightning protection chips.
